"Interior architecture balances in the inter-space between the widely used term design and architecture. An inter-space is something that is not easily described – since it is nothing in itself, but can only be defined by that which surrounds it. So, I will try to describe the inter-space of interior architecture by finding its relationship to design on one side, and architecture on the other."
"Interior architecture is about more than physical environment – it concerns storytelling and ceremonies that take place inside the architecture. And it is about human perception of space and the interspace between the elements and objects in that space. The human activity is the basis of interior architecture. It must be formed from that."
”Clay is formed into a vessel.
It is because of its emptiness that the vessel is useful.
Cut doors and windows to make a room.
It is because of its emptiness that the room is useful.
Therefore, what is present is used for profit.
But it is in absence that there is usefulness”.
(Lao Tze, 640 B.C.)
The interspace – the emptiness in space – is filled with human activity and stories.
